SPF and primer are the perfect two-act closer to any good AM routine.
But knowing when and how to incorporate these steps can be key to successfully prepping and protecting your skin for the day ahead.
Can You Use SPF And Primer Together?
Definitely. SPF and primer can (and should) be used together.
SPF will help protect skin from damaging UVA/UVB rays, while primer is designed to prep, support, and perfect the skin for makeup.
They perform different roles—both helping to get your face ready for the day.
How To Use SPF And Primer Together?
Use SPF first. Always. SPF needs direct contact with the skin to form an even, protective barrier and achieve maximum protection.
Here’s how to use the two.
-
Apply your SPF liberally to your face.
-
Wait a couple of minutes to make sure your SPF has been fully absorbed and set. This ensures your primer doesn’t compromise the sunscreen's ability to shield against sun damage. (It also makes sure your SPF and primer don’t mix on the surface of the skin, leading to a pesky case of pilling.)
-
Go in with your primer of choice.
-
Follow with makeup/no makeup/English muffin crumbs.
It Feels Too Much On My Skin, Can’t I Just Use One?
Just stick with SPF. Primer always takes second-billing.
We purposefully formulated Nifty Fifty with skincare ingredients to leave your skin hydrated and supple so she will still do a great job prepping your skin on its own.
ALWAYS READ THE LABEL AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FOR USE.
Avoid prolonged sun exposure, wear protective clothing, eyewear, a hat, and make sure you reapply frequently in accordance with directions. Remember, sunscreen is only one component of sun protection. For external use only. Do not use on damaged or broken skin. Avoid contact with eyes. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.
