In exciting news for any fierce peptide proponents (me), our latest sheet mask has been positively packed with them. Specifically, Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate. (Please don’t ask me to pronounce it.) (Let’s just call it DDBM from here on out.)
Quick Refresher: What Are Peptides?
Small but mighty, peptides play a big role in supporting healthy-looking skin.
Peptides are short chains of amino acids—and amino acids are the building blocks that join together to form proteins. And proteins make up much of your skin, hair, muscles, and pretty much every structure in your body.
Think of amino acids like individual LEGO bricks. Snap a few together and you get a peptide. Build a big, complex tower and you’ve got a protein.
In skincare, peptides act as little messengers. When applied topically, certain peptides can signal your skin to produce more of the good stuff—like collagen and elastin—which help keep skin firm, bouncy, and smooth.
What Is Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate?
Our bodies naturally produce peptides themselves (which help signal important processes in the body). DDBM is not one of those peptides.
In fact, it’s actually been inspired by a protein found in the venom of the Temple Viper. Huge emphasis here on ‘inspired’. (Your skincare is still very much venom-free.)
Courtesy of some clever cosmetic science, this synthetic peptide was designed to help minimise the appearance of expression lines and dynamic wrinkles by helping skin appear more relaxed and less prone to visible creasing. And it has the receipts to back it up, DDBM has been clinically proven* to:
-
reduce the appearance of crow’s feet
-
improve the appearance of forehead lines
-
visibly reduce wrinkle depth
How Did We Land On Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate?
All those claims might read great but formulating a product is never that simple.
I took this question to Cat, our Formulations Technician extraordinaire who oversaw bringing this mask to life. I asked how her and the formulations team decided on this specific peptide when there’s so many out there boasting incredible plumping claims.
“When we developed the sheet mask, the goal wasn’t to replicate the cream but translate that lifted, plumped Very Luxe look into a fast-acting format,” explains Cat. “We went through multiple rounds of development, trialing different peptide options in batch after batch (and yes, on our own skin!). Some peptides sounded great on paper but didn’t give us enough visible difference in that short window of time. Then we tried Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate.”
“This was the one where we genuinely felt and saw a difference. There was a subtle tightening sensation on the skin, and once removed, the skin looked more plump and hydrated. I actually received an unexpected compliment on my skin after trialing later that day. It was one of those telling moments that really stuck with us.”
“While the Face Cream focuses on long-term firming and barrier support, this peptide helped the sheet mask be instant gratifying. It works beautifully in a high-contact sheet format, where it can sit close to the skin and deliver that immediate smoothing effect.”
How Does Very Luxe Lifting Mask Work?
What’s it they say: No peptide is an island?
As fantastic as this ingredient is, DDBM does its best work when paired up with the right ingredients and format.
And Very Luxe Lifting Mask has been meticulously formulated to do just that.
The Ingredients
It’s been purposefully combined with plumping hydrators (ahem four types of hyaluronic) to help enhance the overall lifted effect of the treatment. While the peptide smooths the skin and reduces visible expression lines, the 4D hyaluronic adds a burst of intense hydration that causes skin cells to swell and visibly plump out fine wrinkles,
The Format
Sheet masks aren’t just good for scaring your partner/housemates/small children. They also work by creating a cocooning, semi-occlusive effect that maximises absorption. In the case of Very Luxe Lifting Mask, the sheet mask format plays a major role in its efficacy. It helps amplify lifting, smoothing, and plumping results by keeping the skin saturated with high-performance actives and minimising any pesky moisture loss during the wear time.
This sealed-in environment enhances hydration, improves the visible smoothing effect, and leaves skin looking firmer, bouncier, and more lifted. Nice!
Who Can Use Peptides?
Very Luxe Lifting Mask has been created with mature skin in mind—featuring high performance ingredients like DDBM to target fine lines, wrinkles, and that general blah feel our skin can get.
Of course, its plumping, hydrating effects can still be enjoyed by all skin types. Just be sure to patch test first. This is a very active formula and it’s best to confirm first that it’ll play safe with your skin.
