The Four Types Of Hyaluronic Acid In Much Plumper Skin

This week we welcomed a new member into the Go-To line-up: A deeply hydrating serum named Much Plumper Skin. She’s the second serum to join the peach party over here at Go-To and now that she’s finally here we want to give you a (non-boring) tour through the ingredient list.

Starting with one of the superstars: Hyaluronic acid!

And this isn’t just any old hyaluronic acid, Much Plumper Skin is made with four (four!!) types of the hydrating heavyweight. Go-To formulations chemist Ingrid Vogels is here to explain exactly why that is and what it will do for your skin.

But First, What Actually Is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a much-loved skin care ingredient, and the recipient of loads of praise on planet skin care. Ingrid explains, “hyaluronic acid (also known simply as HA) is a natural moisturising factor that can be found in skin and tissue throughout the body.”

It’s a humectant (read: a skin care ingredient that draws and stores water in your skin), and it’s a great one at that, Ingrid notes, explaining that it can hold up to 1000 times it’s own weight in water.

“This ability to attract water means that HA is able to support skin hydration levels acting as a mini reservoir,” Ingrid continues. This makes HA a brilliant ingredient for all skin types, and in particular dehydrated and ageing skin types.

The Four Types Of Hyaluronic You Can Find In Much Plumper Skin

Now that you’re a HA expert, you can get to know Much Plumper Skin’s chosen combo below.

  1. Sodium Hyaluronate
The salt form of hyaluronic acid. It's a great humectant that’s able to hold water to support skin’s hydration levels.
  2. Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer
A type of HA that is able to form a protective film on the skin surface to help reduce moisture loss.
  3. Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate
A type of HA that can firmly attach itself to the surface layers of the skin.
  4. Hydrolysed Sodium Hyaluronate
You can think of this one as chopped up hyaluronic acid. This type of HA is really small and so it’s capable of penetrating skin further than other forms of HA.

The Benefit Of Using Different Types Of Hyaluronic Acid

The different types of hyaluronic acid in Much Plumper Skin each have slightly different properties,” explains Ingrid. “This allows for a multi-targeted approach to hydration; hitting the different layers of the skin.”

Basically, by opting for a combination of four types of hyaluronic acid, with different molecular weights, rather than just the one, we’re able to offer a serum that can provide you - and your skin! - with serious and long-lasting hydration at every levels.
